Birmingham to Southampton Cruise Terminal Taxi

A Birmingham to Southampton cruise terminal taxi with OTS Taxi costs from £228 in a saloon on a fixed fare. It is a long drive of around 130 to 140 miles, and doing it in a private car means you leave from your own front door with all your cases and arrive at the ship without changing trains or dragging luggage across stations. Onward Travel Solutions drivers cover Birmingham, Solihull and the wider West Midlands.

Route and Journey Time

Most journeys head south on the M42 and M40 past Banbury, then take the A34 down past Oxford and Newbury to Winchester, joining the M3 and M27 for the final run into Southampton docks. In normal traffic it takes about 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes. Weekend sailings in summer often meet holiday traffic on the A34 and M3, so we build in extra time on those days. A short comfort stop is easy to arrange on a journey this long; just tell the driver.

Taxi or Train from Birmingham?

CrossCountry runs direct trains from Birmingham New Street to Southampton Central, which take around 2 hours 45 minutes, and then you need a taxi from the station to the docks. It is a good option for one person travelling light. With large cruise cases, though, you are carrying luggage onto a busy long-distance train and off again, then queuing for a taxi at Southampton Central. For two or more people, the shared fare in a car is often comparable once tickets and the onward taxi are added up.

Flying into Birmingham Before a Cruise?

If you are arriving at Birmingham Airport and heading straight to the ship, we can collect you from the arrivals hall instead of the city centre. The fare will be a little different because of the extra distance and the airport fee, so enter Birmingham Airport as your pickup in our booking form for an exact price. Allow plenty of time between landing and your check-in slot, as this is a long transfer.

Driving Versus a Pre-Booked Car

If you drive from Birmingham, you pay cruise parking for each day you are away and face the return drive straight after leaving the ship. A fixed-price taxi removes both, and you start the holiday relaxed instead of watching the sat nav. For a two- or three-night sailing, parking may be cheaper, so compare the two for your own trip before you decide.

Arriving for Embarkation

Your cruise line gives you an arrival or check-in time on your boarding documents. Terminals stagger arrivals across the late morning and early afternoon to keep queues short, so arriving much earlier than your slot usually means waiting. Book your pickup so you reach the port about 15 to 30 minutes before your allocated time, with extra margin for traffic.

At the terminal, porters take your large cases at the drop-off area and they are delivered to your cabin later, so you only carry hand luggage into check-in. Keep passports, medicines and anything you need for the first afternoon with you.

Southampton’s Five Cruise Terminals

Ships sail from the Ocean and QEII terminals in the Eastern Docks, or from the City, Mayflower and Horizon terminals in the Western Docks. They use different dock gates, so give us the terminal name from your cruise documents. More detail is in our guide to the Southampton cruise terminals.

Vehicles for the Long Run South

On a drive of nearly three hours, space matters. A couple with two big cases is comfortable in a saloon, but many Birmingham passengers choose an estate for the extra boot room. Families of five or six usually book a people carrier, and groups from the same sailing share an 8-seater or our 16-seater cruise minibus.

Pickup Areas Around Birmingham

We collect from homes and hotels across Birmingham, including Edgbaston, Moseley, Harborne, Selly Oak and the city centre hotels, as well as Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Coventry. Prices for these areas vary a little by distance and are shown when you enter your postcode.

Coming Home

Disembarking? The driver meets you outside the terminal and takes you home to Birmingham and the West Midlands, so nobody has to face a three-hour drive after the cruise. For all routes to and from the port, see our main Southampton cruise terminal taxi page, and compare fares on our Southampton cruise port taxi prices page.

Cruise Transfers From Other Areas

We also run fixed-price transfers to the Southampton cruise terminals from Bristol, Oxford, Reading, Brighton and Chichester. After your cruise, see our transfers from the Southampton cruise terminal to Heathrow and to Gatwick.
