Getting to Birmingham Airport
Birmingham Airport is at Bickenhill in Solihull, next to the NEC and junction 6 of the M42, about eight miles east of the city centre. It has one passenger terminal, so drop-off is straightforward. The M42, M6 and A45 all feed the airport, and weekday rush hours on those roads are the main thing to plan around.
Aim to arrive two hours before a short-haul flight and three before long-haul, unless your airline says otherwise.
Arriving at Birmingham: Your Pickup
Add your flight number when you book. We track the flight and you get one hour of free waiting from the time it actually lands, so a delay in the air or a slow passport queue doesn’t cost you anything extra. Your driver’s details and contact number come with your booking confirmation.
Birmingham Airport Taxi or Train?
A free Air-Rail Link connects the terminal to Birmingham International station, with trains to New Street, Coventry and London. That suits one person going to a city-centre station. A taxi is the better option for families and groups, heavy luggage, late arrivals, and towns off the main line such as Sutton Coldfield, Redditch or Stratford-upon-Avon.
Which Vehicle Do You Need?
| Vehicle | Passengers | Large cases | Hand luggage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | 3 | 3 | 2 |
| Executive | 3 | 2 | 2 |
| Estate | 4 | 4 | 3 |
| People carrier | 6 | 5 | 4 |
| Executive minivan | 6 | 6 | 5 |
| 8-seater minivan | 8 | 8 | 6 |
| 12-seat minibus | 12 | 10 | 8 |
| 16-seat minibus | 16 | 14 | — |
Our saloons seat three, not four, so that there is room for everyone’s cases. A family of four should book an estate.

Taxis to Birmingham Airport from Across the Midlands
Solihull and Coventry are the closest large towns, both well under half an hour away. From the Black Country, the M6 and M42 bring Walsall and Wolverhampton within the hour, and from Warwickshire the M40 and A46 serve Warwick, Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon. Leicester and Nottingham are longer runs where a pre-booked car avoids changing trains with luggage.
Each price is calculated from the actual route when you book, with the airport fee included.
