Heathrow to Earls Court taxi or the Piccadilly line?
Earls Court is one of the few London neighbourhoods with a direct Tube from Heathrow: the Piccadilly line runs from every terminal straight to Earls Court station with no change. For one person with a small case, it is the cheapest way in. It is also slow, roughly an hour with a lot of stops, and at rush hour you will be standing with your luggage in a crowded carriage. The station’s stairs and escalators add to that. A car makes more sense if you have heavy bags, children, a late-night arrival after the Tube has stopped, or two or more people sharing, because our fare is per vehicle, not per head. Four people in a saloon from Terminal 5 pay about £18 each.
What about Uber?
App fares from Heathrow change with demand. When several long-haul flights land together in the morning, prices can surge, and you wait at a pickup zone rather than being met inside. With a pre-booked fixed fare, the price is set before you fly, and your driver is in arrivals holding your name whether you land early or an hour late.
Where we drop off in Earls Court
Earls Court is full of hotels, hostels and serviced apartments, many of them in the long terraces off Earls Court Road, Cromwell Road, Warwick Road and Penywern Road. Cromwell Road is a busy red route, so for hotels along it the driver may pull into a side street to unload. We also go to the new homes around the former exhibition centre site, West Brompton, and the nearby streets of South Kensington, Fulham and West Kensington at similar prices. Give us the hotel name and street when you book, because several of the terraced hotels look almost identical from the road.
How long it takes, honestly
Outside rush hour the run is quick: the M4 into London, then the A4 through Hammersmith and onto Cromwell Road. Weekday mornings between about 7am and 10am and evenings from 4pm are slower, especially at the Hammersmith flyover and the Earls Court one-way system. If you are going the other way, from Earls Court to the airport for a long-haul flight, leave about three hours before departure to cover the drive and check-in.
Arriving at Heathrow
Give us your flight number and we confirm the terminal before the day. The driver tracks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall with a name board and gives you one hour of free waiting after landing, which covers most passport and baggage queues. For terminal maps and live arrivals, see the official Heathrow website.
Booking with OTS Taxi
Onward Travel Solutions runs OTS Taxi from 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. Book online or call or WhatsApp 07575 470883, 24 hours a day. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. Staying near Earls Court
Earls Court is a practical base for exhibitions at Olympia in West Kensington, the museums of South Kensington and Chelsea’s shops and restaurants. If you are arriving for an event at Olympia, the drop-off is a few minutes further on and costs much the same; enter the address in the booking form. For families arriving with children, ask for child seats when you book and they will be fitted before the driver reaches the airport.
Elizabeth line, Piccadilly line or a car?
Since the Elizabeth line opened, Heathrow travellers have another rail option, but it does not stop at Earls Court. You would ride into Paddington or Bond Street and double back on the District or Circle line. The Piccadilly line remains the direct rail link: it runs from Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 straight to Earls Court, with around 15 stops. It is cheap, but slow, and has no space for large cases at peak times. For a family with luggage, or anyone arriving tired from a long-haul flight, a car from the arrivals hall to the hotel door is usually the better trade. Transport for London has live times if you want to compare on the day.
Events at Olympia and the exhibition halls
Olympia, a few minutes from Earls Court, hosts trade fairs, horse shows and exhibitions throughout the year, and many international exhibitors land at Heathrow with samples and display materials. The estate (£82) or people carrier (£97) handles bulky cases. Tell us the hall and the entrance, as goods and visitor entrances are different. Event dates are on the Olympia London website. The old Earls Court exhibition site itself is being redeveloped into a new neighbourhood, so if you are staying in one of the new buildings, give us the building name.
Budget hotels, hostels and serviced flats
Earls Court has one of the biggest concentrations of budget hotels and hostels in London, as well as plenty of serviced flats. Groups of friends or students sharing a car from Heathrow often find it cheaper than individual Tube fares once luggage and changes are taken into account; four people in a saloon from Terminal 5 pay about £18 each. For larger groups, the 8-seater (£129) or a minibus keeps everyone together.
Arriving at Terminal 5, 3, 2 or 4
The fare from Terminal 5 is £72 and from Terminals 2 and 3 £69. Our terminal guides explain where the driver meets you at each: Terminal 5 and Terminal 3, and the Heathrow meet and greet page covers the process from landing to the car.
Flying into Gatwick instead?
Gatwick to Earls Court is £116 in a saloon and takes about 1 hr 11 min. It is a longer drive across south London, but some airlines and holiday routes only use Gatwick. See our Gatwick airport taxi page for other London areas.
