Heathrow to Tilbury Cruise Terminal Taxi

A taxi from Heathrow to Tilbury cruise terminal costs £129.99 in a saloon with Onward Travel Solutions, and the trip back from Tilbury to Heathrow is the same fixed price. The saloon takes three passengers and three large cases, the fare is the same from every Heathrow terminal, and you pay the driver on the day.

Tilbury is home to the London International Cruise Terminal on the north bank of the Thames, about 25 miles east of central London. Ambassador Cruise Line sails from here regularly, and other lines call during the season. If you’re flying into Heathrow to join a ship, this is a cross-London transfer of around 40 miles that’s far easier by car than by train.

The Drive From Heathrow to Tilbury

Your driver will usually take the M25 clockwise round the north of London and then the A13 to the port, so you stay north of the river and don’t need the Dartford Crossing. It’s roughly 40 to 45 miles. With clear roads that’s about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes; the M25 between Heathrow and the M11 is often slow, so allow up to two hours at weekday peak times.

Taxi or Train to Tilbury?

By rail you’d take the Elizabeth line east to Whitechapel, change for West Ham, then the c2c train to Tilbury Town. From Tilbury Town it’s still about a 20-minute walk through the industrial docks to the terminal, or a short local taxi. That’s three changes with cruise luggage. The taxi drops you outside the terminal building, where the porters take your cases.

Arriving at Tilbury Cruise Terminal

Cars can pull up directly outside the main terminal building to drop off. Have your cruise documents ready and your luggage tagged before you set off, so you can hand over bags and go straight to check-in. If you have a check-in time from your cruise line, tell us when you book and we’ll plan the pickup around it.

Pickup at Heathrow

Give us your flight number and terminal. Onward Travel Solutions tracks the flight and you get one hour of free waiting from the time it actually lands. Your driver meets you in arrivals; their name and phone number come with your booking confirmation. For a ship departing the same day, leave a comfortable margin between landing and your cruise check-in time.

Planning Your Day: Flight to Ship

The most common booking on this route is a morning arrival at Heathrow with a ship leaving Tilbury the same afternoon. That can work well, but it pays to work backwards from the time your cruise line wants you at the terminal rather than forwards from your landing time. Here is a typical plan for a long-haul flight landing at 7:00am:

Time What happens
7:00 Flight lands at Heathrow
7:00 to 8:15 Taxi to stand, passport control, baggage reclaim. Allow longer at Terminal 5 and Terminal 2 in the morning peak.
8:15 Meet your driver in arrivals
8:15 to 10:00 Drive round the M25 and along the A13. Morning traffic on the western M25 is the slowest part of the trip.
Around 10:00 Arrive at Tilbury, in good time for a late-morning or early-afternoon check-in slot

If your flight lands later in the day, compare the landing time with the latest check-in time on your cruise documents. We’d treat anything under four hours between landing and the end of check-in as tight, because a delayed flight or a long immigration queue eats into it quickly. In that case, many passengers fly in the day before and stay near the airport or in east London, then book a relaxed morning transfer.

Coming Home: Ship to Heathrow

Ships usually arrive back at Tilbury early in the morning and passengers leave over the following few hours, depending on the disembarkation group your cruise line gives you. When you book the return leg, tell us your ship and the time you expect to be off. Your driver will wait for you at the terminal, and if disembarkation runs late, the OTS team will keep in touch.

For a flight home the same day, we’d suggest a departure from Heathrow no earlier than around 1:00pm for short-haul and mid-afternoon for long-haul. That leaves time for disembarkation, the drive and the airport’s recommended check-in window. Booking both legs together also gets you 5% off the return.

Which Vehicle for Cruise Luggage?

Cruise passengers usually travel with more and bigger cases than a weekend city break: formal wear, shoes, and often a suit carrier. The large-case numbers in the fare table are a fair guide, but it’s worth sizing up if you’re unsure.

  • Two people with two large cases and hand luggage: a saloon is fine.
  • Two people with three or four large cases, or a couple with a folding wheelchair: choose the estate.
  • Four to six people: the people carrier holds six passengers and five large cases.
  • Families or groups of up to eight with a case each: the 8-seater minivan, which takes eight large cases.

Tell us about anything unusual, such as a mobility scooter or golf clubs, in the booking notes so the right car is sent.

Taxi or Parking at Tilbury?

If you live near Heathrow and were thinking of driving, Tilbury’s cruise car parks charge by the night and need to be pre-booked for the best price. Over a 7- or 14-night cruise, parking adds up, and you still have the M25 drive in both directions after a long flight or a week at sea. For fly-cruise passengers the question doesn’t arise: a fixed-fare taxi from Heathrow is simply the most direct way to the ship.

Why Book With Onward Travel Solutions?

The fare you see is the fare you pay. There’s no surge pricing if the M25 is jammed, no meter running in traffic, and no card details taken online. You give us your flight number, we track it, and your driver adjusts if you land early or late. On the cruise leg, that matters more than usual, because a ship won’t wait.

Paying and Changing Your Booking

Nothing is paid online. The fare is fixed when you book and you pay the driver on the day. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup through Manage My Booking; inside 24 hours, call the OTS team. Child seats and extra stops can be added in the booking form.
