Cranleigh to Gatwick Taxi

A taxi from Cranleigh to Gatwick costs £77.53 in a saloon to the South Terminal and £83.31 to the North Terminal with Onward Travel Solutions. That’s a fixed price for up to three passengers with three large cases, agreed when you book and paid to the driver on the day. The trip back from Gatwick to Cranleigh is priced on distance and comes out within a few pounds of the same.

Cranleigh, often described as the largest village in England, has had no railway station since its line closed in the 1960s. That makes a taxi the obvious way to Gatwick. The airport is only about 19 miles away, around 35 to 45 minutes by road through the Surrey and Sussex countryside, and a fixed-fare booking means you know the price before you leave.

The Drive From Cranleigh to Gatwick

Gatwick is almost due east of Cranleigh, so the drive is cross-country rather than motorway. Your driver will usually head out through Ewhurst or towards the A29, pick up the A24 near Ockley or Capel, then take the lanes past Charlwood into the airport perimeter. At quiet times that’s about 35 minutes. Country roads mean slow tractors or a closed lane can add time, so for early flights we build a little slack into the pickup. In bad weather or flooding, drivers may route via Horsham and the A264 instead.

Planning an Early Flight

Airlines usually want you at the airport two hours before short-haul flights and three before long-haul. Because the drive is short, pickups from Cranleigh can be later than from most of Surrey:

Flight time Suggested pickup in Cranleigh
6:00am short-haul 3:15am to 3:30am
8:30am short-haul 5:45am
11:00am long-haul 7:15am
3:00pm short-haul 12:00pm

Taxi or Train?

Without a station, public transport from Cranleigh to Gatwick takes nearly two hours. One option is a bus to Shalford or Guildford and then the Great Western Railway train via Dorking and Redhill to the airport. The other is a bus to Horsham and a second bus on to Gatwick. Neither runs early enough for dawn departures, and both are hard going with suitcases. That’s why most Cranleigh households book a taxi for the airport.

Cranleigh Pickups

We pick up from the village centre and High Street, the newer estates on the edge of the village, and farms and homes in the lanes around. Many properties are down private drives or tracks, so add directions or a what3words reference in the booking notes. For Cranleigh School families, we can take pupils to and from Gatwick at the start and end of term; give the pupil’s name and flight details in the notes, and tell us if a member of staff will meet the driver.

Leaving the Car at Home

Gatwick’s long-stay parking for a week or two, plus fuel and the shuttle bus at each end, often costs about the same as a return taxi from Cranleigh. And on the way home, after a long flight, nobody has to drive the country lanes in the dark.

Areas Around Cranleigh We Cover

The same fixed-fare service covers the villages around Cranleigh, including Ewhurst, Shamley Green, Wonersh, Bramley, Alfold, Dunsfold, Rudgwick, Forest Green and Ockley. Enter your exact address in the booking form to see the price from your door.

Guests staying at country houses, farm cottages or wedding venues around Cranleigh can book the same way, using the venue’s address.

Gatwick or Heathrow From Cranleigh?

Gatwick is by far the closest major airport to Cranleigh, about 19 miles compared with around 35 miles to Heathrow. For holiday and short-haul flights with easyJet, TUI, Jet2, British Airways and others, Gatwick is the natural choice. If you’re flying long-haul from Heathrow, we can take you there too at a fixed fare.

Coming Home: Gatwick to Cranleigh

For the trip home, give us your flight number and terminal. The drive home to Cranleigh usually takes 35 to 45 minutes. We track the flight, so an early or late landing simply moves the pickup, and you get one hour of free waiting from the time it actually lands. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall; their name and number come with your confirmation.

Getting the Terminal Right

Gatwick has two terminals, North and South, about two minutes apart on the free shuttle train. If you’re dropped at the wrong one, you can switch easily, but it’s better to get it right first time. Check your airline’s terminal before you travel; the flight number on your booking lets us confirm it. When you land, your driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight uses.

Which Vehicle Do You Need?

  • Up to three people: saloon at £77.53 to the South Terminal.
  • Four people or extra luggage: estate at £87.87, or £21.97 each.
  • Five or six people: people carrier at £103.75, or £17.29 each.
  • Up to eight: 8-seater minivan at £138.08, which is £17.26 each.
  • Business travel: the Executive car at £103.00.

Children, Mobility Aids and Extra Stops

Add child seats in the booking form and give the children’s ages so the right seats are fitted. If anyone uses a folding wheelchair or walking aid, add a note and choose the estate or people carrier so it travels with the cases. If you need to collect someone in Ewhurst or Bramley on the way, add an extra stop when you book and it’s included in your quote.

If Your Flight Is Delayed

On the way home, your pickup follows the real landing time, and the first hour after landing is free, so a late flight costs you nothing extra. On the way out, if roadworks or an accident close part of the route, your driver will reroute, and the OTS team will keep you updated. For very early flights we plan a little extra time into the pickup.

What’s Included in the Fare

The price you see covers the whole journey for the vehicle, including any airport fees shown in your quote. On airport pickups it also includes flight tracking and the first hour of waiting after landing. There are no extra charges for luggage that fits the vehicle you booked, and no surge pricing at busy times.

Paying and Changing Your Booking

Nothing is paid online. The fare is fixed when you book and you pay the driver on the day. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup through Manage My Booking; inside 24 hours, call the OTS team.

Why Book With Onward Travel Solutions?
