Chigwell sits on the Essex side of the London border, and Heathrow is about 47 miles away round the M25. An OTS Taxi from Chigwell to Heathrow costs £109 in a saloon and usually takes around 1 hr 6 min. Woodford Green is £98. The fare is fixed when you book, covers the whole vehicle and includes the Heathrow drop-off charge (checked 6 November 2026).
Chigwell to Heathrow taxi: The M11 and M25, or across London?
There are two ways to Heathrow from Chigwell. The usual one is up to the M11 and M25 and round the northern side of London to junction 15. The other goes through London on the A406 North Circular and the A40, which can be quicker at quiet times. The driver checks traffic before setting off. Weekday mornings are slowest on both. For a long-haul flight, leave about three and a half hours before departure.
Stansted and London City are closer
Stansted is about 25 minutes up the M11, and London City Airport is a short drive into east London. For short-haul flights they are often more convenient. Heathrow has the long-haul network, so for flights to the Americas, Asia or Australia it is usually where Chigwell travellers end up.
Central line or car?
Chigwell is on the Central line loop. From there you would ride into central London, change to the Elizabeth line at Liverpool Street or Bond Street, and continue to Heathrow. It is a long trip with luggage, around an hour and a half, and busy at rush hour. A car from your door takes the luggage problem away, and a family sharing a saloon or estate pays less per head than the Tube and Elizabeth line combined at peak.
Areas we cover
Chigwell, Chigwell Row, Grange Hill, Woodford, Woodford Green, Buckhurst Hill, Loughton and Abridge. Many homes here are behind gates; give us any entry details.
Coming home, the driver tracks your flight and gives you an hour of free waiting after landing. OTS Taxi is the transfer service of Onward Travel Solutions, 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. The fare is locked in when you book and paid on the day; you can change or cancel at no cost until 24 hours before. We are on 07575 470883 around the clock.
Two routes to Heathrow, and how the driver chooses
The northern M25 is the default route from Chigwell: up to junction 26 or the M11, then anticlockwise past Waltham Cross, the M1 and the M40 to junction 15. It is about an hour in light traffic. When that stretch is blocked or heavy, the driver goes through London instead, along the A406 North Circular and onto the A40 Western Avenue, then the M4 spur. Through London is shorter in miles but has more traffic lights and junctions. The driver checks live traffic before setting off, and you pay the same fixed fare either way.
Gated homes and private roads
Much of Chigwell is large detached houses on private roads and gated developments. Give us the gate code or tell us to call on arrival, and add any instructions about the driveway. If you are in one of the private estates off Manor Road or Hainault Road, let us know the house name as well as the number. For early-morning pickups, leaving an outside light on helps.
Tube versus taxi, worked through
From Chigwell station on the Central line loop, the trip to Heathrow takes the Central line into central London, a change to the Elizabeth line at Liverpool Street or Bond Street, and the Elizabeth line out to Heathrow. In total it is over an hour and a half and involves carrying cases through two busy stations. Transport for London has the exact times. The car is quicker door to door outside rush hour, and for a family it costs less per head than the combined Tube and rail fares at peak.
Stansted and London City for shorter trips
For European city breaks, Stansted is about 25 minutes up the M11, and London City Airport is about 30 minutes through east London. Both are much cheaper to reach than Heathrow. For Stansted flights, see our Stansted airport taxi page, and for City, our Loughton airport taxi page covers the area’s routes to all the London airports.
Frequent flyers and families
Chigwell and Woodford are home to a lot of frequent travellers who prefer the executive car (£147) for its comfort and discretion. For families heading on long-haul holidays, the estate (£124) and people carrier are the usual choices.
Local information
For road closures and travel news, see the Epping Forest District Council website. For terminal information, see our Heathrow Terminal 5 taxi page.
One price, either route
At £109 for a saloon, the fare is fixed for the whole car, whatever route the driver takes. A family of four in the estate (£124) pays about £31 each, door to terminal. A metered taxi from Chigwell to Heathrow can cost much more on a slow morning, and the Tube and Elizabeth line route costs each traveller separately.
Buckhurst Hill, Loughton and Woodford
Woodford Green is £98 in a saloon. We also collect from Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Chigwell Row, Grange Hill, Abridge and Lambourne End. For Loughton, see our Loughton airport taxi page.
Arriving back at Heathrow
The driver tracks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, and gives you one hour of free waiting after landing. After a long flight, the drive home round the M25 is usually about an hour in the evening.
Chigwell School and boarding families
Chigwell School has boarding pupils from overseas, and the start and end of each term means a lot of airport runs. Parents abroad can book on a pupil’s behalf: give the pupil’s name and mobile, the flight number and the boarding house, and your own email for the confirmation. The driver collects from the agreed point at the school and drops the pupil at the right terminal. For arrivals, the driver waits inside the terminal with a name board. Several pupils flying at the same time can share a people carrier, which keeps the cost per pupil down.
Late arrivals back to Chigwell
Long-haul flights often land in the evening, and the Central line can be slow late at night, with occasional weekend closures. A pre-booked car means the driver is waiting in arrivals whatever time you land, and the run home round the M25 is usually about an hour once rush hour is over.
If your flight is delayed, there is no need to call: the driver follows the new landing time, and the first hour after the actual landing is free.
