Heathrow to Stansted Taxi

A taxi from Heathrow to Stansted costs £94.84 in a saloon with Onward Travel Solutions, and Stansted to Heathrow is the same fixed price. The saloon takes three passengers and three large cases, the fare is identical from Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, and the airport parking and drop-off fee in your quote is already included. You pay the driver on the day, not online.

Heathrow and Stansted are on opposite sides of London, roughly 55 to 60 miles apart by road, and there’s no direct train between them. Most people making this trip are connecting between flights or flying out of one airport and home into the other. The real choice is between the National Express coach and a private taxi, and the right answer depends mostly on how many of you there are. The figures below should make that easy to work out.

Heathrow to Stansted Taxi Prices

These are live fares from the OTS Taxi booking system. The price is per vehicle, fixed when you book, and it doesn’t go up if the M25 is slow.

Vehicle Passengers Large cases Heathrow ↔ Stansted
Saloon 3 3 £94.84
Estate 4 4 £108.51
Executive 3 2 £128.04
People carrier 6 5 £128.04
8-seater minivan 8 8 £141.71
Executive minivan 6 6 £171.79
12-seat minibus 12 10 from £376
16-seat minibus 16 14 from £437

Minibus fares are calculated on distance, so they shift by a pound or two depending on the terminal. Put your exact pickup into the booking form at the top of the page to see the final figure for every vehicle.

What it works out at per person

Split the fixed fare between a full vehicle and the cost per head drops quickly:

Group Vehicle Total Per person
3 people Saloon £94.84 £31.61
4 people Estate £108.51 £27.13
6 people People carrier £128.04 £21.34
8 people 8-seater minivan £141.71 £17.71

A return booked at the same time gets 5% off the return leg. Heathrow to Stansted and back in a saloon comes to £184.94 rather than £189.68.

Taxi, Coach or Train?

Here’s how the three options compare. Coach and train times are taken from Heathrow Airport’s own guidance on travelling between airports, and coach fares from published National Express prices, so check them before you travel.

OTS Taxi National Express coach Train
Journey time About 1h 15m–1h 30m, longer at peak About 1h 20m–1h 40m Around 1h 30m–2h with a change
Changes None, door to door None At least one, at Liverpool Street
Cost £94.84 per saloon (up to 3) From around £23–£27 per person Per person, varies by ticket
When it runs Any time you book it for Fixed timetable Fixed timetable
Luggage Space matched to your group Hold luggage allowance You carry it through two stations

For one person travelling light, the coach is the cheapest way across. Once there are three or four of you, the coach fares added together come close to the taxi fare, and the taxi leaves when you’re ready instead of on the hour. The train means the Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express into London, a change at Liverpool Street and the Stansted Express out, which is hard work with cases.

How Long Does the Drive Take?

Your driver will normally take the M25 clockwise from Heathrow to junction 27, then the M11 north to Stansted. On clear roads that’s roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. The western and northern stretches of the M25 are among the busiest roads in the country, so on a weekday morning or late afternoon allow closer to two hours. Late evenings and early mornings are usually the quickest.

Connecting Between Flights

If you’re landing at one airport and flying out of the other on the same day, work backwards from your departure. Airlines usually want you at Stansted about two hours before a short-haul flight. Allow time to clear passport control and collect bags at Heathrow, and add up to two hours on the road. In practice, less than five hours between landing and take-off is tight. If your inbound flight lands in the evening and you fly out early the next morning, a night near the departure airport is often the calmer option.

Give us your flight number when you book. Onward Travel Solutions tracks the flight, moves the pickup time if you land early or late, and gives you one hour of free waiting from the moment the flight actually lands.

Pickup at Heathrow

All four terminals are priced the same. Tell us which one you’re arriving at, and your driver will meet you in that terminal’s arrivals hall. Their name and phone number come with your booking confirmation, so you can call them as soon as you’re through customs.

Pickup at Stansted

Going the other way, from Stansted to Heathrow, works the same: flight tracking, an hour of free waiting after landing, and a driver waiting in arrivals. Tell us which Heathrow terminal you’re flying from so you’re dropped at the right departures entrance.

Booking Extras

  • Child seats: add them in the booking form so the right seats are fitted before pickup.
  • Extra stops: if you need to stop at a hotel or an address on the way, add it when you book so it’s included in your quoted price.
  • Large or awkward luggage: golf bags, skis and buggies take room. If in doubt, pick the estate or people carrier.

Paying and Changing Your Booking

You don’t pay anything online. The fare is fixed when you book and you pay the driver on the day. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup through Manage My Booking; inside 24 hours, call the OTS team.
